Hotel Description
Portsonachan Hotel is steeped in history and the Clan Campbell stronghold of Kilchurn Castle stands at the north eastern end of Loch Awe. The location of the hotel offers glorious views of the loch and the mighty Ben Cruachan.
The Hotel has nineteen en-suite bedrooms in total (each with wireless internet access), with a mixture of family, double and twin rooms available. All rooms have a pleasant outlook and en-suite facilities.
There are five rooms that directly overlook the beautiful Loch Awe. These can be booked in advance by paying a single fee of £12.50.
Our guest lounge is a comfortable and cosy area where you can browse through our library, sit and play board games or just relax in front of the fire. This room is steeped in history and has ambience that must be experienced for you to understand the very special place in history this hotel enjoys. Occasionally throughout the day guests will be able to experience the joys of the pipes.
Dining at Portsonachan:
The Cruachan Restaurant
A magnificent dining room which runs for over half the length of the front of the hotel. It is a stunning place to eat providing modern Scottish cuisine prepared from local produce and presented with style so as to compliment this amazing room overlooking the Loch.
A full wine cellar is available covering most tastes but again if you have a personal preference then please tell us and we will ensure it will be available for your enjoyment.
If you also have particular dietary needs please inform us and our expert team of chefs will be only too pleased to cater for your needs.
After a long day exploring the area you can retire to our bar area. The 'Captain's Bar' is well stocked with over 30 Highland whiskies and drinks to suit all tastes. You can also order from our reasonably priced bar menu while you enjoy your drinks.

Local Attractions
Fishing:
Loch Awe is Scotland's premier 'Wild' fishing loch. The 27 mile long fresh water loch is home to a wide assortment of fish. You can catch char, salmon, pike and trout, both brown and rainbow. Loch Awe held the record for the largest brown trout caught in Britain in the year 2000 with a weight just shy of 32lbs. There is no need to pay for an expensive permit when staying at our hotel, we allow our guests to fish for free on our land. The game season for salmon and trout is from mid March to mid October. Course fishing for perch, roach and pike is all year round.
Golfing around the Loch Awe area
There are plenty of local courses one can play around the hotel, most within a 1/2 hour drive. For more information try:

Boating on Loch Awe:
Boats can be obtained at the hotel by booking with the reception staff. It is advised that you book the night before you wish to use the boat.
Full day hire is from 9.30 am until 4.00 pm. The cost is £37.50.
Morning hire is from 9.30 am until 1.30 pm. The cost is £25.00.
Afternoon hire is from 12.00 pm until 4.00 pm. The cost is £25.00.
Boat hire includes a full tank of fuel and safety gear.
Also we have Windsurfers Canoes and Rowing Boats at respectively £15.00 per or part of £20.00 per day or part of Wind/Canoes £20.00 full day £12.00 half day & Rowing Boats £15.00
Sporting shooting:
The Hotel can organise all types of sporting activities; please enquire about the range of options available from rough shooting to stalking.
Sailing & boat owners
For sailors or boat lovers we do have a full slipway, dock and moorings for the use of residents. We charge a standard weekly fee of £30.00 which includes a launch and recovery plus either a mooring for the week or a berth in the dock. The Loch is 27 miles long and fresh water and affords the most magnificent boating environment for all types of use. The Loch lends itself to all sorts of water sports including wind surfing, yachting and water skiing and we do have a launch operating in the summer on an hourly rate for those who wish to water ski.
Mountain bikes
The Hotel also offers for hire a selection of mountain bikes of various sizes with which guests can take advantage of the extensive open countryside and enjoy some healthy exercise which will ease the guilt of over indulging in all the tempting delights on offer at Portsonachan, a haven of peace.
Walking and hill walking
There is a profusion, both close at hand and within a short drive, of some the most astounding walking to be found anywhere in the world. Try Glen Orchy (9 Miles) or Glencoe (35 miles) or just walk out of our front door and on up into the hills. Whatever your walking desire is, you will be able to satisfy it in this wonderful area.
For ornithologists
Again you are spoilt for choice from ospreys to sea eagles right through to the mighty golden eagle and back to the humble robin who, if you do not watch out, will invite himself to your lunch. They're all here for your appreciation and pleasure in this beautiful and natural area.

From Glasgow:
Follow the M74 to Glasgow. Follow the signs to Glasgow Airport and then to the Erskine Bridge. Cross the bridge and take the A82 to Tarbet, then take the A83 to Inveraray. From Inveraray take the B840 which is signposted Cladich and Ford. Follow this road for approximately 4 miles.
From Edinburgh:
Take the M9 road towards Stirling until junction 10 to Callander. From there head towards Lochearnhead. Continue on the A85 to Crianlarich and then on towards Oban which will take you to Dalmally. Keep on the A85 until you see the sign for Inveraray which will take you onto the A819. Travel along this road for 5 miles until you come to the Cladich turnoff. Take this road and follow it for approximately 4 miles.
