Facilities
Misc. Accommodation Description
You can also reach: Derby, Stratford on Avon, Stoke Potteries, Stourbridge or The Black Country.
The barge pace is slow and leisurely giving time for exploration and appreciation of the surroundings and your Narrow boat.
The nature of your holiday is very much up to you. Make your way down to Tardebigge in your Narrow boat
Bring a bike and explore the canal tow-paths from your Narrow boat, a rod and enjoy the fishing or soak in and marvel at the history and achievements of the of the UK canals with their tunnels, locks and bridges. The real heathen can even moor free on the canal in the centre of Birmingham or many other cities, for the shops and nightclubs, the Narrow boat , will be in walking distance, or choose easy routes and quiet spots and enjoy communing with nature, away from the noise of the towns but still in the comfort of your Narrow boats.
The facilities on a four berth typically include:
· one fixed double bed,
· a bed that can be arranged as a double or 2 singles
The dining /galley area is at the rear of the boat separated from the central bedroom , with a toilet and shower room between the middle room and the end room.
The toilets iswater flushed into a foul water tank and the hot water for both shower and taps provided by the engine.
The boat is provided with a 240v electricity supply by an inverter from the batteries.
This runs the lights, television/video, CD/radio and other equipment onboard quite adequately, though it is recommended that you run the engine for at least 3hrs a day to charge batteries and heat water. This most people will do anyway during the process of travelling.
The galley cooker is gas, includes 4 rings and a separate oven and grill.
This is accompanied by a comprehensive array of cooking utensils, cutlery, crockery and glasses for 6 people.
Filtered drinking water is also available at the sink.
Towels, bed linen, duvets, tea towels etc are also provided for four people.
As is washing up liquid, toilet paper and a complimentary bottle of wine.
Hanging space for clothes is provided in the middle and back rooms, as is some cupboard space for clothing.
Further storage space is provided under each bed.
For the cooler months a gas central heating system is also installed.
Fuel
The boat is provided with a fuel tank holding about 50gallons ( more than sufficient for the average week's cruising).
Three cylinders of propane are also provided for the cooking and heating facilities, again a generous quantity sufficient for all but the most demanding weeks, though cylinders may have to be changed as each empties.
Engine
The engine is low maintenance, requires very little attention with clean exhaust (for a diesel) once warmed up.
Instruction on how to check oil & water will be given on arrival, though it is unlikely that you will need to top up either.
Handling
For the novice (or those requiring) a swift course on boat handling including how to manage a lock will be given.
This will also include safety issues, issuing of lifejackets etc…
Generally the boat is comprehensively equipped and the staff at the marina helpful.
So spend a bit of time at the marina making sure you know how everything works before you go.
Questions can be asked later over the phone, but a little time invested here will ensure a smoother running holiday.
