Self Catering Cottage/Home/Apartment Description

Two/three bedroom one-and-half-storey stone-built holiday cottage in the ancient Fishertown area of Nairn, pop. 11,000. Founded by Royal Charter in 1220 Nairn has two main beaches both two minutes walk from the cottage; there are also miles of sandy beaches extending east to the Royal Society for Protection of Birds Reserve and beyond to Culbin Forest & Nature Reserve.

The Harbour, marina, river mouth and beaches are all two minutes walk away at the edge of Fishertown. Trips to see the unique Moray Firth Dolphins run regularly from the harbour (one of only two colonies in the UK!); they can also be seen from many vantage points along the shore.

Nairn is also fortunate in having two championship Golf courses (both beside the sea) one a few minutes walk from the cottage!

Also beside the beach and two minutes walk from the cottage is Links park – promenade, playground, cricket pitch, putting green, swimming pool.

The cottage dating from the late 18th century has full gas-fired central heating and is able to sleep six in two upstairs bedrooms (one double & one twin) and a bed-sitting room downstairs. In the sitting room is an open fire, television/DVD player. The fully equiped kitchen (microwave, gas cooker, washing machine, fridge/freezer) opens off the dining/sitting room and has a gas fire as well as a radiator. The large bathroom is on the ground floor with bath, toilet and electric shower. There is a telephone for incoming and local calls. Fully carpeted throughout.

There is a walled patio to the front of the cottage with outdoor furniture, suitable for sunbathing/relaxing etc. Parking is at the front.

With no steps on the ground floor the cottage is suitable for people with walking difficulties.

Nairn is ideal as a touring centre being close to the Grampian Mountains and Aviemore, Cawdor Castle, Brodie Castle, Findhorn Foundation, Culloden Battlesite, Inverness, The Speyside Whisky Trail, Cromarty & the Black Isle. There is so much to offer with Nairn as a base – all you have to do is enjoy it!

Royal Burgh of Nairn: Fishertown 1220 – 1975: Society St.
One of Scotland's earliest Benevolent societies, the Nairn Fisherman's Society was
founded in 1767 to care for the Widows and Ophans created by the hazards of fishing. Income came from Quarterpennies (subscriptions) and from the hire of the Mortcloth, the shroud required for funerals. Land was obtained for housing, smoking sheds, net stores and shops such as grocers, bakers and ships chandlers.

Currently Nairn offers a wonderful and varied range of shops, restaurants, take-aways, bars, social activities, sports and recreation. There is a wide range of Folk nights, ceilidhs, as well as annual Books & Arts Festival, International Jazz festival & the Nairn Highland Games.
