Walkers have the Slieve Bloom Way within 4 miles providing 70km of mountain walks, waterfalls and picnic areas with smaller walks available in the area for the less experienced. The world famous arboretum and science centre at Birr Castle Gardens is 30km away, Historic Kilkenny 60km away, the monastic settlement of Clonmacnoise 60km away and many historical attractions, gardens and houses within easy reach.
Golfers have several local courses in the area including Mountrath, Roscrea, Birr, Heritage Golf Course and the Heath.

With architectural and historical charm, Roundwood House provides a range of accommodation to suit your needs.
Dating back to the early Georgian period the house includes six large double/twin bedrooms with en-suite facilities and centrally heated throughout. Within the old house dating back to the mid 17th century are four additional double and twin rooms with bath and en-suite facilities. The informal atmosphere of the Irish country house gives guests a place to relax in the dining and drawing rooms. Outdoors, there are 18 acres of pasture, woodlands and gardens where you can wander round the serene environment and enjoy the historic charm the Roundwood House has retained.
The Self Catering accommodation is of a very high standard rated 4 stars including The Coach House, The Forge and The Cottage each original, stone buildings. Each fully restored, The Coach House sleeps 9 in two double en-suite bedrooms – one with additional bunk beds and the other with an additional single bed. In the sitting room there is also a bed settee which can be used too. The Forge is a split level apartment with a double bed and small settee for additional guests in the sitting room with an unusual use of space. The Cottage is cosy with two rooms – the en-suite bedroom with four foot bed and sitting room with cupboard kitchen.
At Roundwood House you can make the most of the conversation, good food and wine, and discover the collections of books, furniture and paintings in the house. You can play croquet and boules while the children can explore in the woods, feed the animals and play games. The house has stabling with horse riding available 30 minutes away.
