With direct access to the Fells from the bridle path you can explore the area by foot with some of the most picturesque views in the region. We can help you arrange golfing at Carus Green, Kirkby Lonsdale and Windermere, horse riding at Lakeland Pony Trekking, bike hire, water sports, fishing, ballooning, shooting and quad biking.
If you're looking for a relaxing break you can take a cruise on Lake Windermere, visit one of the many historic houses, castles and gardens including Leighton Hall, Munster Castle and Owl Centre, Kendal Castle or Lanercost Priory. There is a wide selection of museums and craft centres such as Cumberland Pencil Museum, Beatrix Potter Galler, Cars of the Stars in Kendal and the Windermere Steamboat Museum.
Outdoor attractions and activities include Maryport Aquarium, Ravensglass and Eskdale Railway, Kendal Climbing Wall, The World of Beatrix Potter at Bowness, Lakeland Bird of Prey Centre and Sellafield Visitors Centre. From the South:
Exit the M6 at Junction 36 on the A590 to Kendal. Take the second exit at the roundabout for Windermere turning right after about 400 yards to Burneside on Hollins Lane. Continue over the railway to the T-junction and turn left to the next village 800 yards ahead (Bowston). Turn right as you enter the village and cross the river. Keep left at the next junction passing Laithwaite Farm on the right and into a little wood. Where the road splits, take the right hand fork where you will find Mirefoot Cotages the second set of buildings on the left. Enter the bridle path following the signs to the cottages.
From the North:
Exit the M6 at Junction 39 on the A6 towards Kendal. After 13 miles turn right for Burneside just before the speed limit signs for Kendal and follow the road into Burneside. Just past the general store at the T-junction, turn right passing the Jolly Anglers Pub and church and onto Bowston village about 800 yards ahead. Turn right as you enter the village and cross the river. Keep left at the next junction passing Laithwaite Farm on the right and into a little wood. Where the road splits, take the right hand fork where you will find Mirefoot Cotages the second set of buildings on the left. Enter the bridle path following the signs to the cottages.

Self Catering Cottage/Home/Apartment Description
Mirefoot Cottages have been decorated and furnished to the highest quality finish with a very high standard of cleanliness. The five star rating ensures you will have the perfect place to stay close to the Lake District's Kendal and Windermere.
There are four cottages available which will each comfortably sleep 2: The Old Grain Store, The Old Shippon, Twitcher's Cottage and Shepherd's View. Each cottage includes a fully equipped kitchen, large TV with Freeview and DVD player with a collection of DVDs available to watch. Guests can bring wireless enabled laptops and make use of the Wi-Fi connection and there is private off road parking available.
The Old Grain Store is a 2 floor cottage with spacious open plan living and kitchen area with high beamed ceilings. Stairs lead you to the king size double bedroom with bathroom in the eaves of the barn capturing the best of picturesque views. With a private terrace you can make the most of the weather and enjoy a BBQ.
The Old Shippon provides the ideal accommodation for a romantic break. The ground floor cottage has a brand new fully fitted kitchen and luxurious king size bedroom for a cosy atmosphere. Unwind in the large garden with furniture provided and BBQ.
Twitcher's Cottage is a ground floor cottage which is perfect for the less agile guests. With garden views from the sitting room you can watch the birds and local wildlife or sit out on the west facing terrace with a BBQ as the sun sets. Both the bathroom and fully fitted kitchen are brand new and you can unwind after a busy day exploring in the spacious double bedroom with queen size bed. During the colder months relax in front of the real log fire with a DVD or listen to the radio.
Shepherd's View offers spectacular Potter Fell views from the bedroom and brand new bathroom. Again with 5 star rating you have the perfect place to stay with real wood burning fire, TV, DVD player, Freeview with choice of over 200 channels, stereo radio and BBQ out in the garden with furniture.
Welcoming you to the cottage is a welcome hamper filled with milk, butter, coffee, jam and bread so you can sit down after your journey. Food can be pre-ordered ready for your arrival from local shops, larger hampers including breakfast and or gourmet hamper with local produce and there are also several Michelin Star restaurants in the surrounding area if you don't fancy cooking yourself.
The gardens at Mirefoot Cottages are large with Fell views, pond, stream, arboretum with unusual trees. There is an all weather tennis court available to all guests and don't worry if you don't have a racquet with you as they can be provided.
