Local Attractions
Dufftown is known as the Malt Whisky Capital in the Speyside hills where the springs supply the water for the distilleries. With 7 distilleries in the nearby area you can get a guided tour and even get a taste at the end. There are two whisky festivals in May and September and the Highland Games provide a great attraction on the last week of July.
The area is rich in wildlife with a large variety of birds including birds of prey, deer, and badgers and if you're lucky, wildcat. Speyside Cooperage lets you see how barrels are made. Walkers have a lot to discover on the Speyside Way or Ben Rinnes the highest mountain in the area with scenic views from the top. If you're not that adventurous you can take a walk along Dullan Water to the Giants Chair and see the rock formation with water flowing through the gorge.
30 minutes from the Moray Coast you can take a cruise to see the Moray Dolphins or follow the Coastal Trail or Castle Trail. If you enjoy sport, you can try out clay pigeon shooting, pony trekking, fishing in the river or loch or Golfing with the highest tee in the UK at over 1000 feet.
Dufftown is small but very friendly and during the summer there are ceilidhs held weekly for visitors to enjoy and musical evenings usually on Mondays where the local musicians perform. It's free to go and see and you can enjoy the evening with a drink from the bar and tutored whisky nosings and tastings which as you can probably guess are very popular.
