 Scottish Self Catering 4 Star
Self Catering Cottage/Home/Apartment Description

The self-contained west wing of an early 19th century country house on the Fife/Perthshire border, where magnificent views over the river Tay, to the Carse of Gowrie and the Sidlaw Hills beyond, complement a traditionally elegant, spacious and comprehensively equipped interior, to establish Abbotshill as a benchmark for 4 Star, self-catering accommodation in Scotland. It may be a large house, with 4-bedrooms, yet the atmosphere within is one of quintessential holiday cottage intimacy and privacy.

The House:

The property normally sleeps up to 8 persons max in 4 bedrooms (1 x twin and 3 x double) but the main bedroom (shown opposite) will accommodate 2 additional children sharing with parents. The bedrooms vary in size and layout, but all will have a colour television + video or DVD, drinks cooler, hair dryer, smoke alarm, and a teasmaid. All beds are fitted with 'hollowfibre' duvets + mattress and pillow protectors, whilst covers, sheets, valances and pillowcases are changed weekly.
Smoking in bedrooms is not permitted on the insistence of our Insurers.

Local Attractions

August in Edinburgh boasts the world famous Edinburgh International Festival and Military Tattoo The Festival Fringe, Jazz Festival, Film Festival and Book Festival all run over the same period so you will never be short of things to do. It is only 45 miles away but with the park and ride facilities at Ferrytoll you don't even have to drive into Edinburgh.

Glamis Castle - situated in village of Glamis this famous Scottish castle was the childhood home of HRH Queen Elizabeth, the late Queen Mother and birthplace of the late Princess Margaret. Within the castle are fine collections of china, paintings, tapestry and furniture. A popular tourist attraction the castle is open to the public and only 32 miles away.

The Royal Palace of Falkland was once the country residence and hunting lodge of Kings and Queens including the tragic Mary Queen of Scots. A fine example of Renaissance architecture with it's beautiful Chapel Royal the Palace is also surrounded by internationally acclaimed gardens. Falkland is about 9 miles away.

The nearby city of Dundee has in recent years become known as the City of Discovery because of its links with the Royal Research Ship Discovery, famous for taking Captain Scott on his epic trip to Antartica. The ship which was built in Dundee is now berthed here, and takes centre stage as part of a visitors centre and museum complex which is only 23 miles away.

The spectacular mountains, forests and countryside draws people to nearby Perthshire from all over the world. Particularly attractive in the Autumn, the area around Perth is ideal for hill walkers, cyclists, nature enthusiasts or simply those who appreciate beautiful scenery. Pitlochry is a particularly popular destination and base from which to tour Perthshire and is only 40 miles away.

Loch Fishing. There are numerous loch fishing/stillwater locations throughout Fife and Tayside, but none closer than Lindores Loch, which is only a 5 minute drive away.

Famously known wordwide as 'Scotch', whisky is still distilled throughout Scotland, and many Distilleries have visitor access. Particularly recommended as a day out for the entire family, are those at Glenturret, Crieff, 30 miles away and Blair Atholl Distillery, in Pitlochry, 40 miles away.

Cluny Clays is internationally recognised as the country's leading Action Activity Complex and there is a wide range of activities such as:
Clay pigeon shooting, golf, off-road driving, archery, group activities, meetings, licensed restaurant, coffee lounge and snack bar. Cluny Clays is only 23 miles away near Kirkcaldy.

The Scottish Off Road Driving Centre is just 7 miles away and provides an action packed day in specially adapted Land Rovers. The large driving range gives good natural terrain to give the driver a thoroughly comprehensive 4x4 training experience. Hair-raising descents and seemingly impossible ascents as well as plenty of very deep water that comes over the bonnet and lots and lots of very sticky mud just add to the challenge!

One of Edinburgh's newest and yet most popular attractions is the Royal Yacht Britannia berthed at Leith docks, only 45 miles away. The Britannia has been turned into a museum and the public can now walk around this grand vessel where until only recently, Royalty travelled the world and entertained heads of state.

The Sun Gallery opened in 2006, and, through an inspired collection of the very best paintings, sculpture, ceramics, glass, jewellery, furniture, art cards and artists materials, provides a showcase for Scotland's diverse creative talents. Well worth a visit and just down the road in Newburgh!

The Edinburgh Crystal Visitor Centre Retail Outlet stocks the world's largest selection of Edinburgh Crystal. In the ground floor shop you will find every item of Edinburgh Crystal currently made for sale. You can also purchase "one-off" pieces of crystal such as vases and bowls created by our cutters and engravers.

At the Scottish Deer Centre less than 10 miles away, there is something for everyone such as species of deer from all over the world, trailer rides, dramatic falconry displays, European wolves, ranger tours, treetop walkway and viewing platform, adventureland, with towers, scramble nets, flying fox, slide, bridges and “the black hole”, children's indoor play area and indoor and outdoor picnic sites.

The Trossachs is a wonderful hidden corner of Scotland. Particularly recommended is a steam boat trip down scenic loch Katrine and it is just over 50 miles away.

The Falkirk Wheel, opened by the Queen in 2002 is quite unlike any attraction you are ever likely to see. Marvel at this engineering feat which amazingly is a rotating "boat lift". Falkirk is about 55 miles from Newburgh.

'House of Bruar', just north of Blair Athol, about 50 miles away at Falls of Bruar, is an extensive, up-market, retail complex which attracts visitors from all over the world, winter and summer. The Harrods of the Highlands, complete with food hall and very good, reasonably priced restaurant.
