"During the age of 10 - 18 I lived in the tiny village of Flamborough Head just outside Bridlington. During that time I watched a once very popular seaside resort somehow slowly ebb toward it's demise.

So when did it all begin?

When I first moved there I thought that it was the best thing since sliced bread, but what child doesn't? I mean there were the arcades mainly what used to be known as Joyland and is now called the Forum. There was that little funfair on the harbour which, although quite expensive, was great fun. However this was spoilt when they removed Jungle Jims (Indiana Jones) and replaces it with, guess what, what every seaside town needs, ANOTHER PUB. This is just one example of how to ruin a family seaside town if there's room they just build another pub, I mean why???

Now as a child I spent a lot of time fishing off the harbour wall with my grandad. Nothing special, just a few hours and a big flask of soup which my grandma would make for us. Do you know they even wanted to change and commercialise that too. They wanted a big posh marina which really I knew would never get built. It takes them two months to dig a hole in the road for gods sake, and don't even ask how long to fill it in again. It usually ends up as one of those annoying little roundabouts that people usually just drive over anyway. Anyway guess what? They decided not to build it after all! Well yipee. It took them three years to decide on what I considered a fore-gone conclusion

There was the one place i loved to go and is still well worth it for a cheap day out for the family .This is the Leisure World. Bridlingtons Rather good leisure complex. Now this place is the answer to any family squabbles. Mum and the kids can go in the pool which, by the way, there are three to chose from. There is a heated infants pool, a proper pool for the more serious swimmer and there's even a large wave pool for the kids. Be advised young children will need your extra supervision as it can get a little crowded and there is a risk of being stamped on by more rowdy children. They also have other facilities such as the sauna and gym etc.

Now if you are looking to get away from all this you must make a visit to Sewerby Park. If you go down to the front by Leisure World there is a little train which the kids will love and it won't cost the earth. This train will take you directly to Sewerby Park. Once you get there admission is next to nothing and believe me it is value for money as it can well take up to a full day and day fillers are what you need if you holiday or live at Bridlington.
Once inside the place really opens up and offers a wide selection of activities for everybody and I mean everybody. There's a zoo and pets corner with petting zoo for young children and Mum too.
Then for dad there's a lovely and well kept 12 hole golf course, although you do have to pay for this. It's only a couple of quid for 2 hours of sheer relaxation and pleasure. Aswell as this there are some great gardens, views and family walks to walk of the ice cream.

So just to summerise this frontrunner of British seasides i would just like to say this to the people who make the decisions.

please stop building pubs because people can only drink so much.

if it's not broken don't fix it, especially holes in the road.

and finally please get rid of the damn pubs because there is enough to go around and restore Jungle Jims so my son can play there like I did so many years ago

BUT..........

Bridlington I still love you!!!!! Honest!

Oh yeah and it's on the east coast about 20 miles south of Scarborough"
