"In my opinion there's no better place to while away a summer's afternoon than in a village pub garden and in the King's Head Wadenhoe, I don't think I'm over-stating it by suggesting it's one of the best in the country!
The setting is truly gorgeous. The huge beer garden / paddock slopes down to a river with narrow-boats passing by. We visited by chance one afternoon. We only turned up for a refreshing pint / coke, but on finding how lovely the setting was we decided to hang about until the evening menu was drawn up. As it was a special sea food evening, they were deciding what else to put on the menu. We decided to go for the sea food platter. If you're into sea food, you would not be disappointed. The platter cost approx £25 for 2, but it could easily have fed 3. The platter was lovely, with lobster, whelks, crab etc, a true sea-food feast. Top marks. As this is the only meal we've had here, we can't comment on the rest of the menu. But having spoke to friends who have visited, we wouldn't be disappointed with anything on the menu.
There was a large selection of beers and wine. Inside there was a log fire and family dog. All completing the scene of the perfect village pub. After dinner we took a walk up to the old church. This is a short walk up the hill. When you consider how close you are Thrapston and the A14, it's amazing that the area is so idyllic. Wadenhoe itself is a tiny village, containing a few stone / thatched houses.
What makes this the perfect pub for me is the location and grounds. With picnic tables nicely spread out you won't want to leave.
We intend to go back over the next few days so if you have any questions at all, please post a question.
