"“Originally known as The Stockland Green pub, Modern China is a superb Chinese buffet restaurant and bar. After receiving a recommendation from friends, I decided to check it out for myself to see if it was worthy of the praise they gave it.
I am a food lover, and as the saying goes 'I live to eat, not eat to live!', and I can safely say that this is without a doubt the best Chinese buffet restaurant I have ever been to (and that's quite a few I can tell you!).
On entering the restaurant, the calm and tranquil atmosphere is immediately obvious and there are enough tables for approximately 150 people. This might sound like a contradiction, but the room is set out in such a way that there are tables round corners or behind screens giving an alcove effect so that even when the restaurant is busy (which it frequently is, due to the quality of the food) it is very quiet and peaceful.
My last visit was only last weekend, as a thank you meal to some friends who had helped me out, and I decided to break tradition and go for a meal at lunchtime. I had only ever been to the evening sittings before, so was not sure how many different dishes there would be. There was about 75% of the evening menu on the buffet, including the favourites such as Yuk Sung, BBQ ribs (which I personally recommend), spring rolls, and a large variety of vegetarian, fish and meat dishes.
The thing I love about buffet meals is that you can fill up your plate as many times as you like, and that is exactly what we did. After 4 platefuls I just about managed to squeeze in a pudding from the delicious selection of fresh fruit and cakes.
After a very enjoyable meal I requested the bill and was astonished that the buffet only costs £6 per person at lunchtime, which is half the price of an evening. I had known it would be cheaper at that time of day but I had never imagined it would be half price. After all, there was more than half of the evening menu available. So now, the only bad thing is I need to find somewhere else to take my friends to repay off the other half of my debt to them!"
