"A number of users have said they want to find out about the beaches in Cornwall. Therefore, I have designed a 'Good Beach Guide' listing the best and most beautiful around. Whether you want a great surfing beach, or just somewhere to relax, there is a good variety in my guide, which you just can't miss. Cornwall is well known, not just in the UK, but also across the world, for its natural beauty. Don't miss out - plan a visit soon! Anyway, here are my top five beaches:
THE TOP BEACHES Number One: Perranporth Ideal for: Relaxing, Surfing, Bodyboarding, sandcastles, children The beach of Perranporth is one of the most spectacular you will find. Acres of golden sand, beautiful Cliffside, the crashing of the waves. It gets me so excited. During the summer the beach is ideal for relaxing in the sun. There is a beachside pub, Called the watering hole, lifeguards watching the water and plenty of space to sunbathe. For the surfers amongst you, Perranporth is the dark horse of Cornwall's surfing beaches, because it does not immediately come as one of the best - That's false! Perranporth is a fantastic surfing location, ideal for begginners and advanced surfers alike. Ask any local, they will agree! Perranporth beach is a real family location; There is plenty of clean sand for the kids to play in, Lifeguard supervision ensures everyone is watched out for, there is a separate area for surfers and swimmers - In a few words it is 'well organised' Also, there is plenty of pubs, shops and cafes within a couple of minutes walk of the beach, so you will not go hungry. An outstanding beach of beauty and excellence that you will not want to miss. Perranporth is also home to my favourite walk. Basically, there is a big road that runs to the side of the cliff, next to the beach. When you get to the top, you will find a costal path, that runs along the cliffs. It is absolutlly wonderful, and the path suddenly stops after ½ a mile (Don't worry it's fenced off at the end though) Find Perranporth 10 miles from Newquay, up the A30. Number Two: Porthcurno/Lands End Ideal For: Relaxing, Walking, Photo Taking The whole area surrounding Portcurno is amongst the most beautiful places in the world, and the beach is no different. This beach is less of a fun beach, but more of an outstanding area of beauty, ideal for walkers, photo opportunities and people wanting to relax. It is known as the 'hidden gem' because it is not well known. The cliffs surround a good amount of clean, golden sand. You can even walk the cliffs! This may sound dangerous, but a designated walkway has been created, which is quite safe (although only recommended if you are ok with heights!) Visitors to this beach should agree with my statement; 'you can sit here for hours, and watch the world go by, and never get bored' its exactly like that – amazing – Time just fly's past whilst your here. During the summer, you might get a few people paddling in the sea, or playing in the sand, but it is a very quiet area. The busy time is during the peak openings of the Minack Theatre, which is at the top of the cliffs; People tend to walk down to see the scenery. An absolute must if you want some quiet time, but not great for surfers I'm afraid. Find Porthcurno three miles southeast of Lands End. Basiclly, follow the road to Lands End, and you will see signs directing you to Porthcurno. (there's only one road!) Number Three: Fistral Beach Newquay Ideal For: Surfing, Bodyboarding, Other Watersports Probably the most famous beach in the UK; Fistral beach is known worldwide for its fantastic surfing and party atmosphere. Fistral Beach is the Ultimate water sports zone, and here you will find some of the worlds best surfers in the water. Not just that, but so much else happens here too; from water sports, to sand kites - you name it. During the summer, the beach is home to mainly the younger generation, and it can get very busy. There are plenty of bars, cafes, shops, fast food, surf shops etc surrounding the beach, so anything you need is in easy reach. During the off peak season, the beach can be almost empty and Fistral Beach becomes a great place for dog walking or just walking in general. Find Newquay off the A30, about 30-40 miles after you enter Cornwall Number Four: St Austell Bay Ideal For: Relaxing, Walking, Sandcastles, Children, swimming/paddling St Austell Bay is a very versatile beach. Why? Because it really does cater for everyone. The inviting blue sea seeks swimmers and paddlers, the golden sand is just dying for you to play with it (or lie in it to relax) The scenery is amazing - A Photographers dream. It really is great. This large beach can house many people, but its popularity has caught on, and it can get very very busy during peak times. This beach is also ideal for walkers; miles and miles of coastline is just waiting to be explored. Number Five: Watergate Bay (Nr Newquay) Idea For: Surfing, Walking, Relaxing, Sandcastles This spectacular beach is three miles away from the town of Newquay, and should not go unmissed. It has a deserved place in my top 5, because quite simply its one of the best! 2 Miles of golden sand and cliffs as high as the eye can see, the spectacular scenes is not the only thing! The water is ideal for swimmers, surfers and body boarders alike, and during peak times is separated into separate areas. Around the beach you will find food and drink facilities, and there is ample car parking for around 250 cars. For those just wanting a nice walk, this should be number one on your list. It is spectacular, and the coastal walk should not be missed. Find the beach 3 miles from Newquay, down the road from Fistral." Was this recommendation useful?
