"Sometimes, loud music and a busy crowd is just what you need for a good night out. Then again, sometimes you just want a quiet drink, in a friendly village pub - This is where the Nags Head comes in.

Location

The Nags head is situated in Great Linford, one of the nicest estates in Milton Keynes. Great Linford is 5 minutes from the busy city centre, but it seems a million miles away. If you are visiting Milton Keynes, there are plenty of buses from the centre, to Great Linford. A taxi will set you back around £3.50. When you get into great linford, just go to the high street, and the pub is there. It's situated in beautiful surroundings - just 2 seconds away lies the Great Linford Manor, home of Pete Winkleman (MK Dons owner) and magnet to famous people (in the last year Victoria and David Beckham have been seen here for a photo shoot) Drinks can be taken in plastic glasses to the manor, and you can just relax on the grass and watch the day go by.

The Pub

The Nags Head is housed in a beautiful 15th Century thatched cottage. It features an outdoor seating area, and 2 pub lounges inside. On entering the pub, you feel immediately at home. The original beams and pleasant decor, make you feel so relaxed and at peace. The pub regulars are all very friendly, and will be happy to chat for hours to visitors. Because the pub is recognised as the best in the area, the number of new drinkers increases all the time, but it is never jam packed with people. In the main lounge, there are around 7 tables, and can seat approx 30 people. The main lounge is a quiet area, there are no fruit machines, juke boxes or distractions - just a good social atmosphere. The second lounge is more of a 'fun' lounge. It has plasma screen TV's showing live sports, a couple of fruit machines (and a quiz machine) plus a darts board. You usually find the younger generation in here. Again, there are around 7 tables seating 30 or so people.

Food And Drink
I will start with their fantastic food - they have a great value menu, where most meals are two for £6. I have eaten here a number of times, and the chef is of top quality. All food is cooked with care, and to absolute perfection. I would recommend their bacon cheeseburger meal, it is fantastic. They cater for both meat eaters like myself, and vegetarians, as well as the kids! In regards to drinks, there is a huge selection to chose from. Lagers include Stellla and Carling - plus there are always real ales on offer, which change periodically. All the usual wines and spirits can be found, as well as a range of soft drinks, like j20, lemonade and coke. One great thing about this pub, is when you order a drink, it usually comes in that branded glass - ie carlsberg extra cold in a carlsberg extra cold glass. It just adds a little care to the whole experience. The bar staff are absolutely fantastic, and seem to really enjoy their work - service is always fast, and you never need to wait more than a couple of minutes to be served. Prices are fair, with a pint costing around £2.60 and double vodka and coke costing about £3.70. They are well inline with Milton Keynes prices.

Special Events
The Nags Head has a host of special events. On a Sunday, they have a pub quiz, where locals (and visitors alike) battle it out to win a cash prize. Periodically, there are other events, for example, live music, golf events etc etc. Its is always worth calling to see what's scheduled. In addition to this, once a year (dates change) the Great Linford Waterside Festival takes place. It is a weekend of music, fun and games, and takes place around the Manor. This is when the pub is at its busiest - the event gets more and more popular every year.

Beer Garden
The beer garden is small, but has enough tables to host about 20 people.

Children, pets and policy
It seems to be rare that you see children in the Nags Head, but they are welcome in the lounge, I believe until 9pm. Small dogs are usually taken into the pub, providing they are well behaved, or can stay in the beer garden, where there is water for them to drink. Other policies include a strict 'over 18' drinking campaign. If you look under 21, take ID. Apart from that the pub is very relaxed and informative. There is NEVER any trouble of any type. No fights, brawls or smashing around AT ALL! Other things to mention, debit and credit cards can be used (min £5), There is and ATM machine (£1.50 charge) and a cigarette machine (£5.20) in regards to parking, within the pub are 12 spaces, but further space is always available on the high street.

To close, The Nags head is defiantly worth a visit if you are in the area. There are few pubs I would strongly recommend in Milton Keynes, but this is one of them. A top class pub, with top class people. It gets an A* in my books"
