"Tropical Wings in South Woodham Ferrers, is set in acres of gorgeous gardens and features one of the largest butterfly houses in the country. There are many different species of birds, insects and animals to be seen here.
They run daily 'animal encounter' sessions which give you a chance to learn about and see the wildlife up close. My son loves this part of it infact we have to drag him away!! The animals they use during the encounters range from butterflies to parrots to ponies and reptiles, and with the majority you actually get to experience meeting the animals!
They have a huge childrens play area and undercover picnic areas as well as 'The Discovery Kingdom' – a large indoor area where you can learn even more about the animals that they have there, this is primarily aimed at children.
If you can get to certain parts on time you can join in with the feeding of the animals as far as i can remember all the pet food is free – though please dont hold me to that!!
They also have 'Tractorland' which is an area for children to give them the oppourtunity to ride on motorised tractors – another favourite of my sons.
Although they have the undercover picnic area, you dont have to bring a picnic their Butterfly Tea Rooms serve hot and cold food and drinks and are reasonably priced also.
It is fully accessible to wheelchairs and has toilets for the disabled.
Baby changing facilities are available.
All in all this is a great day out especially if you have young children, and if you are nearby it is definatly worth a visit, but be prepared your children may not want to leave!
