"This is the third of my personal experiences, which tell you about the UK's most haunted spots. This time round comes St Leaven Church, situated in the beautiful St Levan area of Cornwall. We visited St Leaven church in March of 2005, and it defiantly was an experience to remember - Put it this way, my good friend and fellow 'ghost hunter' rob, will never go back! Here is the full story of our visit.

LOCATION
St Leaven Church is situated a few miles from Penzance, the end of the English land, in Cornwall. Directions from Penzance are simple. Go towards Lands End on the A30, when you reach Drift, turn left onto the B3283 (signposted St Buryan) Around a mile later take another left onto St Buryan Hill - B3315 (signposted Porthcurno) Go through Treen, and it's around 1/2 a mile from there (locally signed)

THE CHURCH
This church is the most beautiful haunted location, I have ever visited. Located quite simply in the middle of nowhere, the views are spectacular. The building itself is 100's of years old, and some of the grave stones date back to centuries ago. The land surrounding is wonderful, you could simply sit back and relax during the day.

THE HAUNTED EXPERIENCE
We arrived at St Levan around 7pm, on a cold march evening. The church was all locked up, and it was pretty dark for the time of year. Nobody was in sight of the church, it was quite simply deserted. We sat down on the grass, just overlooking the church and the stones. We tucked in to our meal we picked up on the way, and just chatted away. The first haunted moment came after around an hour and a half. We heard a ringing sound, kind of like an alarm, but slower. This was heard by all three of us. We investigated by walking closer to the church, but it did not appear to get louder. After around 15 minutes, it stopped, confirming to us it was probably an alarm or something. 5 or 10 minutes later, it started again, but seemed to be in a different location. We ignored this, as there was no prospect of finding the source. After the second ringing, there was non stop 'scares' we heard footsteps, laughing, stamping and creaking on a very regular basis. We know for a fact NOBODY was around the area, because we checked all the time. It could just be a coincidence we heard the noises, but it seemed strange. We walked around the church yard, at this time it was about 10pm. The next event that happened was the ultimate reason my friend will not come back. We was walking past a grave, which has a milk bottle next to it, with some very old dead flowers poking out the top. He happened to make a comment on how old the flowers were, when the bottle literally fell on its side. Now, many factors could of made this happen. It was a little windy, and the bottle was on an uneven surface, but it seemed very strange it dropped at that time in particular, especially when the murky water was still in the bottle before it dropped (confirming it had been standing a while) He ran back to the car, at some speed, leaving me and my wife to finish up. The last straw for us was when we heard another laughing sound, coming from the church itself. This was the second laugh we had heard, and did not want to stay around any longer. It may have been teenagers winding us up, but we checked around several times, and nobody was in sight. We left the area about 11:00pm, after just 4 hours of visiting.

OTHER PEOPLE GHOST HUNTING
One of our key things to do after our ghost hunts, is to trawl the internet, and see if anyone else had similar experiences. We found one website that interested us (http://www.kernoweb.myby.co.uk/spiritsofcornwall/churches02.htm) The main thing it states was the ringing of a bell, which could explain our ringing sound. A sailor who died in the sea, is buried in the churchyard, and a few years ago, a girl was standing on the grave, reading the inscription, when her friends heard bells ringing (said to be the captains ship bell) Apart from this, we have had no further links to our sightings.

WHAT TO TAKE
Food+Water (maybe dinner/camping stove)
A Torch (AN ABSOLUTE MUST)
Camcorder or Camera (If Available)
a mobile phone (recommended in such a remote area)
Warm clothing
A reliable car
AT LEAST 2 PEOPLE (DO NOT VISIT ALONE)

TO NOTE
Please have respect. Do not trample on graves, make lots of noise, or in any way disrespect the area. You are on someone's land, and should treat it with the up most respect. Also, visit only after 7pm, as people do visit the church. If any late services are taking place, respect this and stay out the way.

SCARE RATING
4/5 Do not visit alone! This is one of the scariest places we have visited, and by far has the most unidentified noises!"
