"Working in the wonderful, bustling city of Birmingham is fantastic and one thing that Birmingham does extremely well is offer visitors and residents fantastic restaurants to eat out in. The best I have tried is Cielo which is a Italian / Mediterranean restaurant situated in Brindley place and I would give it top marks for everything because I had such a brilliant time there.
Cielo looks very friendly and inviting indeed with blue lights outside saying the restaurant name and tables outside which I can imagine are lovely to sit on during the warmer times. Inside it looks very posh indeed and there is a small bar as soon as you walk in and then a seating area where you can have a drink and take a look at the extensive menu. The main part of the restaurant boasts suede seats with wooden backs and many of the tables are round so that if a group of you go, you will be able to see and hear each other well.
The atmosphere is made to be very relaxing in this restaurant as the music is played quite quietly and you get lovely tunes such as the theme tune from Twin Peaks playing and you do just feel so comfortable and at home while eating your food. On one wall there is a water feature which looks like part of the wall is a fountain and the lights are set nice and low so it gives a romantic atmosphere too.
The food here is great and as well as getting you normal Italian pasta dishes you can also choose from a huge array of meats and fishes and most of the time there is a specials board so you can get different dishes al of the time. When the food is delivered to you the presentation is so appealing that you just want to dig into your meal straight away. I recommend king prawns to start, halibut for the main and then crème brulee as they were all fabulous. You get enough food on your plates to just have one course but after having my starter I was hungry for more so had the full three courses which I did feel a bit greedy about afterwards.
With respect to drinks you can choose from a huge range of soft drinks, beers, wines, champagne, spirits and cocktails and the waiters will let you try things before you buy if it is necessary.
The prices vary a lot in this restaurant with starters ranging from £4 - £15, mains from £7 – 25 and desserts are £5. There is the option of going for a fixed menu though where you can get two courses for £11,95 and three for £14.95 and there are a lot of choices on there. The drinks are reasonably priced as you will get everywhere.
Where Cielo stands out from many of the other restaurants I have been to is that the staff were extremely friendly and they made the time spent there even more enjoyable. They let us get on with chatting and eating and did not bug us by asking if we were ok all of the time and they also let us take our time and even had a joke with us while they were recommending food to us.
The final thing to mention is that the location of Cielo is fantastic as it is in a very nice and picturesque part of the city in Brindley Place and you are in easy reach of some great bars such as Bank and also the symphony hall and the Ferris Wheel which I call the Birmingham eye. You are also close to trains and busses so you can get home easily.
I would recommend this restaurant to everybody as I had a great time and I think that the whole meal went perfectly. If you like good food, surroundings and service then you could not do much better so if you are in Birmingham then do visit."
