"Attractively laid out in spacious landscaped grounds, this friendly and nicely un-spoilt place has are more than just the flamingoes from whom it takes its name. There are all sorts of other tame exotic birds, and what makes it really special is the way you can get so close to them; many will feed from your hand, and it's quite a thrill seeing them swoop down towards you. The talks by keepers are great for children; they try to bring out the birds' individual characteristics, as well as passing on a conservation message. Events and demonstrations throughout the day include feeding penguins, pelicans, macaws and parrots; there's also a new display of brightly colored free flying exotic birds, owls and some delightful baby penguins splashing around in their nursery pool. They have other animals too, notably beavers and red squirrels, with hands on opportunities at the recently extended pets corner. You can also usually feed there koi and huge mirror carp. Its all arranged with some thought and style, but hasn't been over developed, and they take care to ensure everyone who wants to will feed a bird at some stage of their visits. No dogs though. There are meals, snack shops and picnic areas, and also disabled access. The number to phone for extra information is 01983 612153"
