A Beautiful Place For A HolidayPorthleven, Cornwall, England South WestRecommendation added: 12/03/2006 17:05 By: speth (YSUK rating +1) speth has been thanked 1 times for this contribution
"Porthleven is a wonderful place to go for a holiday.
At the centre of the village is the harbour. The harbour is split into two parts, an inner harbour and an outer one, the inner harbour is full of fishing boats and there are plenty of places to sit nearby and watch the boats coming in and out. At the end of the outer harbour there is a pier and to the left of that is a sandy beach. There are plenty of rocks when the tide is out for children to go rock pooling in and the beach is plenty big enough to sunbathe and build sandcastles. Personally I would recommend only using the sea there for paddling as the tides can be quite strong and the rocks make it a little dangerous but it is a beautiful place to go and sit in the summer. There are plenty of places to eat in Porthleven. There are several pubs and restaurants offering very good food, many serving fish freshly caught that day. There are also two fish and chip shops (I would personally recommend the one on the high street as they have a larger range of fish) and there are also pasty shops. If you are staying self-catered then there is a small supermarket in the town for all your essentials. For things to do there are a few galleries showing local artists' work and various arts and crafts shops. There is also a regular bus service to Penzance where there are many shops and a railway station, and also a service to Helston where there is a small theme park called Flambards which is a great day out for the kids! Buses also run from Porthleven to Truro and many stops in between. I have always loved Porthleven and its picturesque views bring me back every holiday." Was this recommendation useful?
