"The Haydock Thistle is, as are most of the Thistle Hotels, great. Whether you're staying there socially or attending a conference the standards are high. The Haydock Thistle is easily accessible by car as it's just off the M6 (junction 23), and the nearest train station is a taxi ride away and will probably cost about a fiver in a taxi. The hotel is about 15 miles from both Manchester and Liverpool.
The hotel is set in it's own large gardens, which are gorgeous, especially on a hot day! As soon as you enter the grandeur of the place hits you, it's beautiful inside. It has a restaurant, lounge and bar. All are actually fairly affordable despite the fact that the appearance of the hotel makes you think that everything would be really expensive. The food is amazing and service is fast and friendly.
The hotel also has a leisure club for it's guests to use. This includes a fair sized gym, swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi. All of this is very modern and clean.
The rooms are a fair size, with the usual tea and coffee making facilities. All are en-suite. The rooms and beds are very clean and comfortable, with a TV which I believe has Sky TV at an extra cost.
The hotel overlooks Haydock Racecourse, so a lot of people stay here the night before the races.
My only reservation is that one of the conferences I attended here was quite a small one, and the conference room provided had obviously once been a (very small) bedroom, so it was cramped and a little weird to have an en-suite toilet during a meeting!
All in all this is a great hotel, the accommodation and food is good and the staff are friendly and efficient. And at around £65 a night for bed and breakfast you can't go wrong! A real winner!
