Sleepy BallymoneyBallymoney, County Antrim, Ireland NorthernRecommendation added: 06/03/2006 19:40 By: SMCGOLD (YSUK rating +55) SMCGOLD has been thanked 4 times for this contribution
"A fantastic sleepy little town with great places to eat, whether you fancy a tea and scone or a five course dinner.
The Cooleen is an excellent place to stay as well as eat. But book early, it is in big demand! The decor is warm and homely with a lot of attention to detail. Food is served with a smile and your meal is never rushed. If you fancy something lighter there is the littleknown Peppercorn down the main street. The door is sandwiched between a card shop and charity shop but worth the travel upstairs for a feeling of escape and the opportunity to watch the town carry on from an unnoticed seat. The Banardo's charity shop is a must see. It is bright and airy with fantastic bargains inside. The quality of stock is amazing for a charity shop and some good finds are to be had. They also stock large items of furniture. Cassells and Walkers may look like a tight squeeze but also worth a visit as the shops open up inside and there is actually a lot of stock. The Winsome lady is an upmarket fashion boutique and worth a browse if you have extra spending money. Local attractions are the historic old church yard and the Joey Dunlop memorial. Ideal watering holes have got to be the Manor Hotel for a contemporary cocktail or Joeys Bar, near the train station, if you like your old "sawdust and spit" bars with local craic! Ballymoney is worth a visit or a great base if visiting the north coast. Loads of cheap B&B's, not far from Portrush, Portstewart, Bushmills Distillery, Giant's Causeway and Ballycastle. Quiet at night and very friendly. If self catering there is a lidl's supermarket or a large Tesco at the bottom of the town." Was this recommendation useful?
