"The Phoenix pub in Manchester is situated on Oxford Rd, handily placed between Manchester Met and Manchester Universities. It is therefore, perhaps a bit too far out from the main bars, pubs and clubs in the centre of Manchester, but is a good place to start a night, especially if you are a student living in the student village or out Rusholme / Fallowfield way. Regardless of its location, Phoenix pub is a Scream pub; it therefore has no dress code (or at least not one that I can fathom…I have been in there in all manner of attire, and not yet been turned away). Being a Scream pub it also has a wide array of cheap drinks; a video jukebox and a generally friendly atmosphere and staff.
But the fun really starts on a Saturday night when the upper floors of the Phoenix pub open up (past eleven at night) to become the Phoenix Club (and no Peter Kay jokes please). This club has two floors and at least three rooms of very good hard dance, techno mix and hard house music. Once in every while there is a middle to a top name DJ on the decks, but it doesn't matter as this club pumps out consistently good hard dance music regardless of who is playing. There does seem to be a smart-casual dress code for the club, so if you are planning on going straight from the pub to the club then be aware of this. Another plus point is that every other week, the club nights finish at 6am (if indeed you can keep up with the DJ!), so if you live out in the suburbs of Manchester then public transport has just about started to run again, thus you don't need to pay for a taxi.
Overall, the Phoenix pub is cheap, with friendly staff and no dress code; the club, although it has a dress code, is definitely worth going to if you are into hard dance music. The entrance fee to the club is relatively cheap (about a fiver, which is good for a Saturday night). It is certainly worth going there for a night out; I would highly recommend it."
