"If you don't know Nottingham, you might be surprised to learn that it is not just what you see on the surface: The city has an underground past, and there are many networks of caves connected to the cellars of shops, pubs and Nottingham Castle. Probably the most accessible are the ones under Broadmarsh Shopping Centre, accessed via the Caves of Nottingham Experience.
These well preserved subterranean wonders were once used for cockfighting, tanning leather and as air raid shelters. Donning a hard hat, you descend into the gloom, to be met by a series of characters playing the parts of long lost cave workers. They are knowledgeable and entertaining, and you feel like you have learned a lot about the city, and what life used to be like, when you come up blinking into the daylight!
