"I've enjoyed reading the reviews of things to do in wells next the sea, so I thought I would add one of my own. A few weeks ago we were wondering what to do, fancied something out doors. The weather was not too bad, overcast and slighty windy, but fine really. We opted for a 50 mins drive, picnic and walk in wells pinewoods. Something we haven't done for years. The reason we opted for the pinewoods was because the trees act like a superb protector from the weather. Never seems cold and you have a natural windbreak.
We parked at wells harbour (£3 per day) put the backpack picnic hamper on back (recommended) and walked the 1 mile along beach road to pinewoods. It's such a beautiful walk just getting to the woods, with the sea coming to the harbor. Once at the woods we walked for another 15 mins or so and found a wonderfully private clearing off the beaten path. There are so many areas suitable.
The pinewoods themselves run right over the Holkham so you can just keep walking. Over the hill at the back of the tree you have a wonderful view of the beach. Never fail to enjoy sitting staring at the sea. Because of the wind though, we stuck to the cover of the trees. There is sooo much space for the children to play. Hide and seek, pine cone competitions and tree climbing is the order of the day. If you're lucky you may find the occasional swing. The woods are large and very quiet so a fantastic way to get away from the crowds. As already mentioned here is pinewoods caravanning and camping park. We've never actually stayed here, but it's built right next to the woods so if you're lucky enough to be staying there, you've got them right on your doorstep!
Other tips: there's a café near the carpark at the pinewoods end of beach road. This car park is also £3 per day. If you're feeling lazy, there's a small train that runs the mile from wells harbor to the pinewoods campsite. The kids love it!"
