"Located just off the M62 motorway Xscape is a purpose built indoor activity centre. The scale of the centre is huge, it's the size of six football pitches, and is 38m high. It was winner of Best Tourism Experience 05 in the Yorkshire Tourist Board White Rose Awards and is dubbed Yorkshires 'Coolest' and most unusual attraction.
There is much to do at xscape but I will focus on its main attraction the real snow ski slope. Great for those who wish to learn to ski/snowboard or those with experience who want to get in some extra practise.
Don't worry if you have never been skiing before there are lessons for total novices up to advanced. Prices for an adult lesson is 27 pounds for 1 hour with friendly fully trained instructors and all equipment included. Kids lessons are 23 pounds an hour but packages are available cheaper. Its a great way to learn before going on a skiing holiday or just to get good enough to ski recreational at xscape.
If your already able to ski/snowboard you must be able to use the lifts, control your speed/direction and perform controlled linked turns. Then a recreational session on the main slope will set you back from 16 pounds off peak. All information on prices and session times is on the website.
I had never been skiing before when i went for my first lesson. I arrived early to get kitted out with the correct sized equipment. You don't need to have full ski wear tracksuit bottoms, water proof jacket and gloves will be enough its chilly but not too cold but you can hire a ski suit if you wish.
There were eight people in my group which was a mixed male and female and wide range of ages. We had a lovely instructor who explained the lesson plan and demonstrated what we would doing. We began on the nursery slope and i felt very safe. I quickly got into it and found it really exciting when we got to move onto the ski lifts and main slope. Its really good been able to watch what tricks people can do on the snow. It took me 3 hours of lessons before i know enough to go for a recreational session but people vary.
With in the xscape complex itself there are lots of things to do you can do including bowling, cinema, climbing and many shops and places to dine out. There is something for everyone. Its a great place to keep kids of all ages entertained durning the holidays the only problem i can see is that all the activities cost quite a bit and it could end up been an expensive day out.
