Mantra vegetarian / vegan Indian LondonSoho, London, England Greater LondonRecommendation added: 20/12/2006 19:54 By: jph1 (YSUK rating +10) jph1 has been thanked 2 times for this contribution
"Vegetarian and vegan Indian restaurant in the heart of Soho.
FOOD Everything on the menu is vegetarian, and vegan items are marked with a V. Mantra have a huge range of curries (rice included), plus good quality burgers and chips and “fusion” cookery which we did not try. The Poppadoms were delicious - freshly cooked and still warm and puffy, and a large range of starters. Everything is served in little dishes which you serve out onto your plate – perfect for sharing or trying little bits at a time. The dishes look small but hold a deceptively large amount – I couldn't finish all my food. A few interesting ice creams available for desert, as well as cake and rice pudding - but we were far too full for desert! The Bhindi Masala (Okra) was a bit spicy for me. If you like your food really mild, ask the waiter what they recommend, or go for something like the burger and chips. DRINK Good selection of teas, including chai (served with milk, unusually) and green leaf teas, or if you prefer there is a well stocked bar. COST Mains £10 or £11 for good sized portions. LAYOUT There are two floors of cosy tables, though these can be pushed together for a party. WHO Perfect for couples with candlelit tables and waiters who let you take your time, but when we visited the downstairs was booked for a party – guests including families with children. So good for anyone who likes curry! MORE INFORMATION Have a look at their website: http://www.mantrasoho.com/ for menus and more information. HOW TO GET THERE 48 Dean Street, Soho, This is very close to Leicester Square tube station (though our wrong turn took us the long way round through Soho's sex shops!)."
