"Well there isn't really a lot you can say about Tain it is a rather small town, but when one thinks of the highlands and pictures it in there mind this Town is what there imagination comes up with, the town has a selection of shops most of which are small local family run businesses and have all been there for a many of years, the also have a co-op and a 2 mini markets, and due to this fact the place doesn't get over crowded with out sides coming in to do there weekly shop, the only people you will find are those that live here and tourists. There are a couple of small quaint hotels that cater more to comfort and relaxation than most hotels, they all have a rather personal feel making you feel more welcome and less like a cheque, if you want to go out a night these is a nice little selection of local pub that you can go to and have a nice quiet relaxing drink, but remember that Tain is in Scotland so there is no smoking. For things to do in and around Tain, you can go swimming at the pool which is joined onto the high school, go for a game of golf in the Tain golf course or if you would prefer you can go to one of the courses near by why not try the Dornoch or Carnegie courses. And be sure to visit the Tarbat Discovery centre, which is a museum that has been set up in an old church in Portmahomoch, visit the Tain through time museum and see how the royal burgh of Tain has changed over the years, or you could visit the Glenmorange distillery the first time I went here was with work when I was 16 and I just loved it would really like to go back again. If you have a car with you then why not take the short drive out to the sea board village Shandwich and see the Shandwich stone, and be sure to visit the Dornoch Jail and Cathedral and not forgetting the Dunrobin castle. And if you have the time why not go to Cromerty and take a boat trip out in to the Moray Firth and see the Bottlenose dolphins up close this is one boat trip not to be missed out on. For out door activates try sailing, windsurfing or walking, and for the best walks why not go for one along the beach, there are also a few great places for fishing, one activity I have given up I loved it as a kind not so keen now though. So if you are looking for a nice place to go on holiday then why not try Tain you will not be disappointed just make sure you visit the right one as there are 2 and the other one doesn't have anything to see or do, so you want the one in ross-shire."
